When your office has to worry about funeral homes Hellertown, PA, it’s a major distraction in your life. Your emotions will be hard to define. Your coworker may be your friend, they may be someone who you only have a casual relationship with. This is what makes navigating their loss so confusing. You want to respect their memory yet work still needs to go on.

If you are the person who lost someone and is returning to work, you are also in a strange situation. You may be unsure how to act. There’s a lot of pressure on you to act in an appropriate way.

The following advice can help anyone that finds themself in this situation.

1. Be Patient

People react to death in unpredictable, strange ways. However, one thing that’s certain is that it will take time for things to get back to normal. It could even take weeks. If you’re an employee, you may want to use your time off for this sensitive period. Don’t try to rush back to work if you’re not ready.

2. Give Space

Your coworker needs space when they’re grieving. If the person who died worked at the company, everyone in the office may be affected. If the deceased was close to one of your coworkers or to you, the whole office won’t be grieving, but everyone may feel the difference in energy. Eventually, time will create a new normal.

3. Connect

Employee events designed to foster friendships and working relationships are sometimes derided as “cheesy.” Yet, when employees are feeling the effects of grief, these events can be crucial. They give you a chance to connect in a new and different way. In addition, these events can serve as a distraction. Work needs to continue, but people also need to let their minds relax.

4. Focus

It’s a good idea to remember what you are all there for. Your business exists for a reason. When everyone is dealing with stress and grief, they may forget what they love about the work. Your team needs to regain its focus. You might need to schedule a series of special meetings. This doesn’t need to happen immediately, however.

5. Remember

Depending on your company and the position of the deceased or grieving person, the office may want to host some sort of memorial. Or, perhaps a gesture that shows solidarity, These can range from hosting to a full-blown memorial service to sending flowers to the funeral in the name of the office. This gesture alone might be very much appreciated.
