Differences Between Cremation Services and Funerals

Cremation services and funerals are both designed to help people put their loved ones to rest. However, there are differences between the options. Read this post to learn more.

Cremation services Pennsburg, PA
Cremation services Pennsburg, PA, are used to give you a chance to say goodbye to your loved one. They’re very similar to funerals, yet there are distinct differences. Which option is right for your loved one depends on different factors. What are your beliefs? What did the deceased believe? These are the questions that matter.

The crucial difference between cremation services and funerals lies in what happens to the body. When the family hosts a funeral, it means the body has been buried. Its physical condition is intact although there are steps taken to prepare the body for the funeral and burial. When someone is cremated, their remains are turned to ashes. Those ashes can be scattered, kept in an urn, worn in a jewelry keepsake, etc.

For some, there is a religious significance to this decision. If you are in this group, you likely already know what matters to you. If you aren’t religious, or if you are beliefs allow for either cremations or burials, you have a tougher decision. In that case, you need to look at other factors.

Cremation services and funerals have different minimum costs. Cremations are naturally more affordable. One reason for this is because of the casket required for burial. These can cost thousands of dollars. You will also need to purchase a burial plot. When your loved one’s body is cremated, you have more flexibility. You only need to pay for the cremation itself. Everything else is optional.

This flexibility might be why a cremation service is a right option for you. There are reasons beyond the cost. When someone is buried, you have to work with a strict deadline. The demands of nature can’t be avoided. In result, the funeral must occur within a few days of the death. It’s in a specific location. However, it may be difficult for the deceased’s family to gather so quickly. In that case, a cremation service may be more appropriate.

The decision isn’t one that anyone wants to make. Unfortunately, death can’t be avoided. It touches every life. When your loved one dies, it turns your entire life around. It can feel as though you can’t continue.

Because you can’t bring your loved one back to life, you can’t make your grief magically disappear. You have to feel it. However, you can work to lessen it. In part, that’s what hosting a memorial service does. It gives you a chance to say goodbye to your loved one in the only way that’s left. You can hear other mourners share stories. These events are powerfully moving. They can help you process what’s occurred.

It’s also possible that the deceased had clear ideas about their own death. You may have no decision to make. You only have to do what you can to follow your loved one’s wishes. Cremation services are unique to every family. Your loved one was a person who had their own force in life. This can be felt at the memorial.
