How Many People Should You Invite to the Funeral?

Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. • July 15, 2019

Hosting a funeral is tricky. Figuring out who to invite is one of the hardest parts. We can’t create your invite list, but we can give you tips to help you populate it. Read this post.

At some point in your life, you’re going to need the services of funeral homes Hellertown, PA. Planning a funeral is a very tough thing to do. Your heart is ravished with grief yet you have to keep your head clear enough to organize the event.

One of your main concerns will be how many people to invite the service. You want as many as people as possible to honor your loved but there are practical as well as emotional considerations to think about. Funerals and funeral receptions aren’t free. The more people you invite, the more you’ll have to pay.

There are a few different ways you can handle this. First, you have to decide if the funeral is going to be public or private. If you decide to have a private funeral, you have to be very precise with the guest list. Another strategy is to have a public funeral but a private wake and funeral reception. This is common when the funeral is held at a large church.

Even if you decide to host a public funeral, you should still send invitations to specific people. Some people will be expecting it and may feel hurt if they don’t receive an invitation. Anyone who is very close to the deceased, as well as close family members, can be considered part of this group.

You also have to think about emotional considerations. What kind of relationships did the deceased have? Inviting someone who may have had a rocky relationship with the deceased is a risky and controversial move.

The last thing that you want to do is cause drama at the funeral. It will be extremely distracting and not in a good way. If the deceased cut ties with someone in their life, think long and hard before you invite them to the funeral.

However, you shouldn’t let your personal feelings dictate who to invite. Funerals are about those left behind in one sense, but they’re mainly about honoring and respecting the deceased. If they cared about someone who you don’t like, you should ignore those feelings and invite that person to the funeral.

If you decide to invite a lot of people to the funeral, don’t be offended if some people don’t show up. It doesn’t mean that they didn’t care about the deceased. Grief affects people in funny ways. Some people can’t handle going to a funeral. It makes them feel too emotional.

A memorial service shouldn’t be judged by the number of people who show up. Touching just one life is meaningful. Still, if you’re planning the funeral yourself, you should have an idea about how many people you expect to show up. It will make everything easier.
