Everyone wants to be happy and relaxed during the holidays. If you’re grieving instead, it may be especially difficult to get through these times. Here are a few tips that can help.

Cremation services Red Hill, PA, occur even during the holidays. Hiking, camping, listening to birds’ singing, tasty treats, and bright lights are all part of what makes your holidays exciting and fun. Friends and family meet, arrange tours, and look forward to what is yet to come in life. For many, it is the most memorable time of the year, but for others, who are grieving the loss of a loved one, it’s just the opposite.

No matter when your beloved died, you always miss them more during the holidays. Nothing is more painful and disheartening than losing someone close to your heart and the holiday season is the time when it’s felt the most. So, if you’re coping with the loss of a beloved, below are a few suggestions to help you overcome pain and stress during holidays.

Create A New Holiday Hobby or Tradition

Holidays are always full of traditional activities. People often indulge in the same activities every year. For the bereaved, many traditions don’t seem fun anymore as they bring back the memories of the deceased. To diverge your mind, create a new hobby or tradition; ask your immediate family, and pay tribute to the deceased together.

Some of the fun traditions you can start include:

  • Arrange a special dinner: invite friends and family, cook the deceased’s favorite food, and serve it to everyone. Ask close acquaintances of the deceased to share special moments or stories about the lost loved one.
  • Form a special journal where every family member leaves a special note in tribute to the deceased.
  • A small candlelight ceremony in a natural spot to remember the lost soul.
  • Do volunteer work in their name.

Go to Nature

The holiday season is the best time to explore the beauty of nature. Hire a car, if you don’t have one already, and go on a long road trip and get lost in the tranquility of the wilderness and remember the deceased. It’s said that when you’re close to nature, you’re close to something larger than yourself. Doing so will help you heal and overcome pain.

Do Something for the Community

If you want to give the best tribute to the deceased – and cope with the grief - during holidays, do something for the community. Not only will it make you feel better but also honor the memory of the lost loved one. From direct donation in their name, volunteering for a charitable organization, donating old clothes, offering your services for free to elders, etc. you can get involved in community servicing through a myriad of ways.

Don’t Cage Yourself

Pay foremost attention to your physical and mental health and don’t isolate yourself. You can join a gym or fitness club which is a healthy distraction from grieving. Also, indulge in fun activities and make plans with your friends and family. Celebrations without the loved one may indeed seem dull and boring but you have to control your emotions and adapt to the new reality of life.

If you still couldn’t get over the pain and grief of the lost loved one, ask for professional help. You can join a support center or concern a therapist to help you overcome grief. Cremation services Red Hill, PA, are the first part of a long process.
