Hosting A Cremation With Service

Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. • September 3, 2019

A cremation often involves a ceremony similar to a funeral. It allows mourners a space to pay their respects. If you’re planning a cremation service, here are a few things you should know.

Cremation services Allentown, PA
Cremation services Allentown, PA, aren’t something that you want to think about. But you don’t have a choice. When you’re loved one dies, you don’t have a lot of options. When you decide to have their remains cremated, you also need to decide if want to host a cremation service.

A cremation service is almost identical to a funeral service. There’s often a picture of the deceased at the front of the room. The ceremony can easily be religious or non-religious. The goal is to give everyone a chance to pay their respects one last time.

Because you’re not bound to a gravesite, you can host a cremation service wherever you want. It might be easier, however, to host the service at the crematory. They have space and the facilities to handle the gathering.

Or, you can try hosting the service at your home. This is easier to do if the gathering is going to be small. Yet, you should be aware that this strategy comes with extra responsibilities. In addition to preparing your home for the initial meeting and playing host, you’ll also have to clean up after the event. It won’t be fun.

However, there may be sentimental reasons why you want to hold the service at one spot rather than another. If the deceased had a preference on this issue, try to follow it. The dead aren’t here to care about what we do but you’ll feel better yourself if you honor your loved one. If you don’t, you may feel incomplete after the death of your friend.

There are different ways to host the service. The key is to stay true to the deceased. If the deceased was religious, for example, the service should be highly religious as well. It doesn’t really matter what your own views are, even if they’re diametrically opposed to the deceased’s.

You should think about hosting a reception. The reception differs from the cremation service in that the reception is more like a somber party. The guests eat and mingle and share stories about the deceased. Cremation services are usually more structured. They follow a pattern Instead of sharing stories, most guests sit silently and while one or two people speak to the group.

The reception is a good idea because it allows people to relax. Everyone still feels emotional but the atmosphere is less serious.

Every cremation service is different. That’s because the overriding focus is on the deceased. A ceremony celebrating the life of an elderly man who peacefully passed away will be a different experience than a cremation service honoring a child who died unexpectedly. The emotions will be wildly divergent in the two cases.
